New England SCBWI Critique Groups

NESCBWI Critique Groups are held, usually on a monthly basis, in communities throughout all the New England states. Each group is unique, shaped by the talents of the Critique Group Leader and the participants.

On this site you will see a list of the currently open critique groups in each state. If you have any questions, contact your local coordinator at necritiquegroups@gmail.com.

Don't see a group in your area? Fill out our critique group request form and we will contact you if a group becomes available. If you would be interested in starting a group, send a request to necritiquegroups@gmail.com. You can also check back since this site is updated regularly.

Thanks!

Nancy Karuzis, Central New England (MA)

Shannon Fitch, Northern New England (NH, ME, VT)

Tracy Newman, Southern New England (CT, RI)

Online Only Option

Many groups have found that online critiquing is a great option. See below for a current listing of open groups. Are you interested in forming another online group? Please email us at centralnecritiquegroups@gmail.com and one of the regional coordinators will get back to you.

PB Regionwide 1:

A new critique group for Writers/Illustrators of picture books is now forming. (Only a writer? No problem.) Because many published souls gather with their critique partners frequently, this one will be scheduled to meet virtually twice a month, although exact dates and times will be determined by its 3-5 members. Focus is to be on giving feedback on work presented, but if time allows, the sharing of any industry information is encouraged, too. Prior experience with writing is needed (e.g. critique participation, publishing, or placement in contests, etc.). For further information, contact Sheila at skberenson@gmail.com

PB Regionwide 2:

We have openings for two authors in our picture book critique group. All levels are welcome. We meet via Zoom once per month at 8:00 pm on Thursdays. We submit any work that we want critiqued before our meeting and we spend approximately 15 - 20 per person giving feedback and discussing. (Amount of time spent depends on how many people have work and attend. The full group will be six people). We follow both self-published and traditionally published tracks. One of the members is also an illustrator. Please contact Jessie Kravette at jessie_kravette@verizon.net for more details.

PB Regionwide 3:

Our online NF PB critique has one opening. While NF PBs are the main focus, we also workshop fiction PBs. We are a group of agented, published authors who swap manuscripts on the 15th of each month via Word attachments to email. We critique using Track Changes and send feedback to the writer only (i.e., not “reply all”). New members would need to sign a standard confidentiality agreement before participating. Our group is friendly, supportive, and inclusive. We ask that members participate on a regular basis, though, of course, life happens, and some months a writer may need to skip a round. Please feel free to share this post with writers nationwide and internationally. Thanks! For more info, contact Christine at christinevanzandtauthor@gmail.com.

PB/MG Regionwide:

Our newly formed group is seeking picture book/chapter book writers and illustrators. Open to all experience levels! We will meet via Zoom on the 3rd or 4th Thursday evening of the month. Come ready to offer friendly critique, discuss industry news, and share your work! Contact Parker for more information: parkermilgram@gmail.com. [Currently not accepting new members.]
